Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Planet Medic is committed to providing professional, adventurous and progressive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for paramedics and nurses internationally.

What is CPD and is it the same as CME or CPC?

Continuing professional development (CPD) is how health practitioners maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge, expertise and competence, and develop the personal and professional qualities required throughout their professional lives. Other agencies adopt similar formats for continuing education however refer to it as something different.

How can I apply for CPD through Planet Medic?

•    As long as you are a registered paramedic or nurse and attend or complete a program in full, you can apply for a certificate of completion.
•    Following completion of an activity you will need to request and submit a CPD Reflection (template)
•    Planet Medic placement programs, online learning and Planet medic partner programs are designated for CPD through reflective practice.

How many nominal CPD hours will I receive?

The nominal hours of CPD are program dependant however Planet medic is pleased to offer participants anywhere from 4 – 30 hours of CPD credits depending on the program undertaken.

How can I claim my CPD?

Each participant must self-report their specific CPD activity to their registering body. Below is a non-exhaustive list of examples of paramedic registering bodies however if your registering body is not here, we are able to issue the same certificate of completion should you require.

Examples include:

  • Australian Paramedics: self-report CPD to the Paramedicine Board of Australia.

  • American Paramedics: self-report continuing education (CE) to either the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or your state registry body.

  • Canadian Paramedics: self-reported CME to The Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC).
